As history has taught us, every empire must fall, eventually, and so too will the empire of pewdiepie, youtube’s golden boy, and the most subscribed YouTuber on the platform.

But pewdiepie isn’t about to lose his throne to another YouTuber, he’s about to lose it to an Indian music label and production company called T series.

Based in Mumbai, T series has been in business for 33 years, and they decided to start their channel in March of 2016. They have reached the same subscriber count as pewdiepie in less than half the time.

The extremely fast growth of t series can be attributed to the rapid growth of the mobile phone usage within India. Back in 2002, only 20 million Indians had access to the internet. In 2018, that number reached 560 million.

According to the author of the book India connected, the boom is the result of low-cost smartphones combined with cheap data. India has a population of 1.3 billion people, and almost a third of them are logging on.

T series is already the number 1 most watched youtube channel, with 60 billion views. Every single day, t series posts several music videos from Bollywood movies, Bollywood movies themselves and indie pop artists.

Essentially, India is getting its movies and music from T series, which is now a 101 million dollar company. Unfortunately for pewdiepie, and the youtube community, pewdiepie will be knocked out of the top spot very soon, though it's difficult to see how long that will take.

Every time the subscriber gap closes, another attack is launched by pewdiepie fans by paying for billboards, hacking printers, making videos.

All urging people to subscribe to pewdiepie and unsubscribe from t series. Ironically, all this talk about t series, which was previously unknown by many in the west, has actually helped them gain subscribers.

According to the CEO of t series, Bhushan Kumar, everybody knows t series across the world now. When t series beats pewdiepie, it will be proof that youtube is becoming more and more corporate.

The idea of an actual person, rather than a corporation, is the most subscribed YouTuber, is comforting for most of us. It means that it's entirely possible for an average person who worked an average job to become someone of tremendous influence.

After a corporation becoming the top youtube channel, One can even say that it takes you out of youtube and makes average people less important. Then again, we live in a corporate world, and it's likely going to stay that way.

On the other hand, pewdiepie has said that he doesn’t want to be the top youtube anymore.

Being the most subscribed YouTuber comes with a lot of pressure. That pressure piles up. Pewdiepie is constantly scrutinized by the media for minor things, things that are taken out of context that tarnish his reputation.

Once t series surpasses him, maybe some of that pressure will subside. At the end of the day, pewdiepie’s subscriber count, and the fact that he’s a creator and not a corporation is a huge accomplishment.

Being beaten in subscriber count by a corporation doesn’t lessen that accomplishment.

The sad truth is, t series is going to beat pewdiepie, and they are going to beat him soon. The population of India is of more than a billion people.

Bollywood is their music genre of choice, and t series is a corporation and production company that has an endless amount of content to post because that’s the kind of content they make.

T series doesn’t even need the whole youtube community to rally behind them in order to close in on pewdiepie in subscriber count. It was a good run guy.

How long do you think it will take for T series to surpass pewdiepie in subscribers? Let me know down there in the comments.
